Research Findings

“Family Support services are enhanced through program evaluations that reflect Family Support principles and that contribute to continuous program improvement.”
— A Family Support Principle

Family Support programs are proven to be effective:

  • Family Support Centers use the Parents as Teachers model, an evidence-based home visiting program proven to improve parenting practices, provide early detection of developmental delays, prevent child abuse and neglect, and increase children’s school readiness and school success.
  • Family Health Services has been evaluated by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh, who found that “Family Support plays an enormously important and positive role in the lives of the families.”
  • The Family Support Program Outcome Survey found that being involved in Family Support reduces parents’ stress, increases their confidence, and builds support networks — all of which help protect children from abuse and neglect. The survey was developed by the FRENDS National Resource Center for Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention.
